- Ben and I rode our motorcycles south and east through a bit of Amish country. Hills and curves OH MY!
- Finished painting front door "wild currant" - but still to tacky to hang back up.
- Finished painting the halls, the guest bedrooms, the offices, the kitchen, the sun room and entry. (thanks to Pat, Carol and Pete)
- Ordered new office furniture for Ben - I'll be pulling pieces from his office to make mine work better.
- Wired more of the house for TV cable and internet (thanks to Andy and Steve).
- Tomorrow I pick up the last of the family room furniture and talk to the carpet folks about new carpet for Ben's office and all the bedrooms (Ben gets brown, bedrooms get beige)
- Put together one of two side tables for our bedroom (they match patty's lights) and have another for living room
- Have an order holding on Overstock for the "couples" guest bedroom - holding out for the bed frame I want.
- Cleaned up the kitchen from the 4 days of painting and home projects
- Fixed the lighting in the entry, sun room
And when all done, I was able to cook dinner and eat with Benny! I have decided to "master" the electric cooktop before pulling it out and replacing it! I did not burn dinner! Hurray!
So you know, I miss
- My kids
- My girlfriends
- Whole Foods (especially the soaps and salad bar)
- Sushi
- Trader Joes (especially the frozen foods)
- San Francisco (in general)
- The beach (even through I did not get there often)
- My kids (again, because I really really wish they could come visit my new home!)
- And all our CA friends - Too many to list y'all - but you know who you are.
Yes, I am taking time to enjoy the new house.
Right now I am in the family room, on the new leather sectional with Abby on my feet watching TV - drinking a fine chardonnay (from CA) and enjoying the peace and quite this space brings me. Ben is with his friend John in his office (next to the family room) but with the doors shut I can't hear them.
It snowed a bit 2 days ago - Ben and I ran into this room and watched the flakes fall. We hugged and kissed and wished for a bit more to fall, but then it warmed up. It's been sunny and warm since. We would go riding, but too much to do to the house.
Today I brought home carpet samples - we picked and they come to measure on Monday.
Ben and his buddy's spent hours under the house rewiring for TV and interent. I hear the crawl spaces are carpeted and well lit!
I think the most amazing part of our being here is having people come to help us . Ben's family was here for 3 days helping us paint. His friends came today to help wire. We are going to an early thanksgiving at Ben's uncle's home. My mom drops in to see what's new and I stop in to her home and take her with for shopping and lunch. My sis and her husband have helped us set up the washer dryer, moved the freezer down stairs etc
We are nesting and I love it.
etc etc etc
Go forth and fill your libraries with media.
Seriously, thanks to everyone for being so amazing and patient. You are the reason I love Vox.
I was just told that the Amazon Conduit will be fixed by tomorrow. I will post here as soon as I get word that it's back up and running.
I know this has been frustrating and I am sorry there wasn't more I could do to make it less so. I really appreciate your patience though.
Cheers,
I have been buying things for the new home and realized the final touches could be best found on overstock.
I got a rug for the family room and a collection of lamps - then I thought "why not look for the trundle beds I want for the bunk room?"
I need to get a painter in here - the bunk room is PINK PINK. Like Pepto pink. Needs to go neutral and fast. The light in the morning in that bedroom is awesome - so I'm sure I can turn it into a great room. I have many rooms needing a change of "color".
My second guest room, deemed the couple's room has yet to be thought out. For now - there is futon in there. (not the most inviting of rooms at the moment) But this room has tons of windows facing the large yard and park beyond. Its a fabulous room, but I need to think through my approach to it before filling it!
Third quest room (yup we have 3) is going to stay the workout room (bowflex in there) and it's also where the dog crate is for Nym. So really, it's his room.
I know - I know photos. I am holding off till I get rooms set up as I want them to be!
Mark and Barb took me out for a long ride through the hills and turns of Ohio. We were traveling through Amish country, so we had to watch out for buggies and horse poop! It was AWESOME. We had amazing cheeseburgers at a little hole in the wall and got to see a parade of trick or treat through a small town. Little kids all decked out with their parents. There were speakers and a dj in the middle of the small town the kids were parading through.
The scenery was spectacular but there is no way of knowing how long the weather will hold up for riding. Yesterday was rainy. Everyone says the snow is coming. Barb and I plan to get cross country skis to keep at my house. We can ski out my front door!
I am planning on taking up downhill skiing again too since Barb and Mark are into it. Maybe I can even get Ben to try it again! There is more to do here than I could possibly have time for and I am LOVING IT.
I got home and put up quite a bit of my art items - Navajo rugs and pots, mexican pots and day of the dead, and my mask collection. It all just seems to know where it belonged. Each item led to the next. I am pleased!
We have chosen paint colors for the rooms in need of painting.
We have ordered a new (quiet) dishwasher and just got a TV to fit the huge space in the family room.
I moved our bedroom stuff around to be more like our old bedroom and finally slept like a baby last night.
The last space I will work on is my office.
I want HOME to be perfect first!
We were very pleased with the new gardeners work today! They are great guys (tatted and pierced! and they gathered up a truck load of leaves and trimmed and edged. The yard and gardens look amazing.
We still have boxes everywhere, but it's coming together!
Kitchen is my favorite room so far. I've never had such a large well equipped kitchen!
My orange accents work perfectly! We plan on painting the kitchen and entry/breakfast/sunroom a lovely light green.
Ben picked a soft brown for his office.
I put most of my rustic mexican furniture up on freecycle.
It looked awful in this house. I painted some of it white, but it still looked wrong.
I am going for clean, open and simple look. Less is more and all that.
We are amazed at how CLOSE we are to almost every kind of store we could want.
But my favorite furniture store is south about an hour in Sugar Creek. I have items from there arriving Sat.
We also sign our sellers docs for our CA house on Sat. Horray!
We bought bought a new dishwasher today and picked the other items for the kitchen we'll upgrade too once we feel comfortable with our ability to work from Ohio. Ben has been busy daily with projects and more are coming soon.
His office is still coming together so he's camped out in the family sun room.
Kitties began to explore the house yesterday and seem to enjoy it.
Dogs love their backyard "hill" and tonight got to play with a new "cousin" - my sister's dog Beanie.
We still can't believe our master bath is really OURS. It is like a resort bath.
All in all. I love it here. I truly do.
So tired. Finally sat down on my COUCH with my feet up. TV still not set up, but at least I have wireless. Phones work off and on, we need a booster.
Jess (niece) came over at 11 today and we painted my mexican hutch and a couple other items white today.
I need to touch them up, but they looked like sore thumbs when I put them in this house. Our goal was to have them blend in with the other painted white items in the living room and all the trim. I have new furniture coming and this way I can make do with some of the items I have. As it is, we need to get a new bedroom set as ours looks like crap in the bedroom. This house is just much nicer than we expected.
This way, once I paint our king size bed white and move it into the guest room there will be a BIG bed for visitors!
Boxes are everywhere, I've put a bunch of kitchen stuff away (until I realized the hutch looked so bad) but the rest of the house is all a jumble. Ben managed to put his office desks together and started on mine, but it will be a couple days before I am truly up and running in there.
So far - we love it here.
The house is AWESOME as is the neighborhood - and we have every kind of store and restaurant within minutes. Our yard is filled with trees and flowers and the fall colors are amazing. So much to do and see, but for now, I'm nesting.
Big time nesting.
Barb and Mark came by for lunch today. My mother brought us dinner. Yesterday we had Ben's three Ohio buddies and his mom and his sister in law helping us unload the truck. Ben did chickens on his new rotisserie . I've stocked up on all the wines I KNOW are great (thank you patty) and I've been playing hostess even through the mess.
Dogs and cats are in heaven even though the cats have yet to leave the (pink, yuck) bedroom. Abby keeps getting on the roof, which is hysterical, and today she jumped into the "stream" which turns out to be 6" of water on top of 2 feet of muck. Nym loves his back yard "hill" and roams the fence line at the top howling at our neighbor's plastic owl. There are so many rooms and spaces, we still get a bit lost from time to time. This will improve once the boxes are depleted.
All in all - this is perfect for us.
Bad news. As many of you have probably noticed, the Amazon Conduit was not fixed in the last week's release. Unfortunately, there was an undetected bug that is preventing the conduit from working.
We are working on this bug fix and hope to have the Conduit back up and running this week.
I will keep you posted.
Thank you for being so patient.
